Shopping healthy

I have went a whole week without eating gluten, soy and milk products. I am past the body reaction to eating like this. I am actually feeling pretty healthy.

What I am finding out is that it is expensive to eat like this. As I shop I have my reading glasses on hand to read the ingredients list. Even gluten free items often have soy or dairy products in them, so I have to put them back. Everything except for the rice tends to be expensive, only the high price upper class food stores here carry the things I can eat. I can't just walk into a general food store and expect to find rice tortillas that don't taste like cardboard.

I have replaced the beef with chicken, buffalo, lamb and fish. I am not a fish fan so it is hard to find fish I like. I replaced cheese made with cows milk to cheese made with goats cheese, butter with goats butter, and am trying goats milk instead of cows milk. Not sure if goat products will replace cow products as my son was allergic to goats milk when he was a baby and I worry I might be too. They don't specifically test for goat milk allergy. So I am being cautious. I tried almond milk and rice milk but don't really like either too much.

I find what I really miss is sweets. I can find all kinds of chips like items to replace the crunchy things but it is really hard to find sweets that don't have gluten, soy or milk products. urrgghh. When I do they don't always tastes so good. I did go to a party this summer that had a chocolate fudge volcano cake that was sooo delicious and it was gluten free. I need to ask that friend for the recipe!

I have lost two pounds eating this way, which is a bonus. I have several light medical conditions which will improve if I lose 10 to 20 pounds so I don't mind that side affect. LOL, if I cheat on this diet I feel bad, so the incentive is to stick with it. I was able to turn down angel food cake, my favorite cake, without too much qualms. Amazing!

After two weeks of eating like this my doc said I could start adding things back in. But I feel so well I am not sure I want too.

Today I am at my Cedarflame's house. She had surgery on Friday, they sent her home yesterday! She is doing quite well for having had major surgery two days ago.

We'll know she is on the mend once more when she starts blogging lol
