Let's do the Charleston!

I went to a birthday party for my friend Teri last night that had a 1920's theme. It was held in a Thai restaurant called Thaiku in Ballard. A suburb in Seattle. It had formerly been a Chinese Apothery and Opium Den ran by a Chinese doctor by the name of Fu Kun Wu. In the basement was the "sleeping" room for people who had smoked Opium as a cure all.

The restaurant has named the bar after the Dr. and has turned the space in the basement into a small banquet room of sorts. You enter this room after going straight through the restaurant and going down a set of crumbling cement stairs. The stairway was lit with candles and as you rounded the corner the candles lead you into a small narrow rectangular room. Directly in front of the rooms entrance is a large bed space in the wall with beautiful woodwork around the outside. Candles are on the ledges surrounding the room and it is in semi darkness. There is a mass of candle wax drippings down the walls close to the opium bed area. To your left is a narrow walkway and there are four table booths set up along the path way.

The food was delicious and the company was entertaining. Quite a few people showed up and so it became a little warm but fans were brought down to cool the area off. (no windows) Teri read some of her poetry and sang some great songs and others people gave small performances too. It was really quite enjoyable.

Teri commented to me that she and I both have a costume fetish as she admired my costume. I dressed as a flapper in a dress that I bought on ebay and then retailored to fit me better. I cut off the hem and moved around the fringe and fixed the sleeves. I love, love, love dressing up so this was great fun for me. I will have more pics to add later as her beau, who is a great photographer, took some pictures of me in the space. He will let me down load them once he gets them uploaded to Flickr.

Here is a picture of me in my roaring twenties costume before I left for the party.
